Preliminary and detailed site investigations (contamination investigations)
Project challenges
The client had entered into an options agreement with the land owner to purchase the site. The due diligence period under the agreement was relatively short and investigations were required to establish whether there were any contamination-related risks at the site.
Our solutions
JKE completed comprehensive site investigations that included a detailed review of historical information and soil sampling. Information was provided to the client progressively as the works proceeded. The sampling plan was altered to target areas where the historical information suggested contaminating activities may have occurred in the past.
The investigation identified contamination associated with the burial of substantial amounts of asbestos materials which had come from the historical demolition of former chicken sheds on the site. Due to the extent of the contamination and the potential clean-up costs, the client did not proceed with the property purchase.
